The D&D Daily's Retail Violent Death Report
Since 2016, publicly reported Retail Violent Deaths have jumped 13 percent overall. In the 4th quarter of 2017, though, that number was up even higher - 34 percent. Is this a new trend that will continue into 2018?

More than 1 Retail Death Per Day In 2016
In the D&D Daily's exclusive 2016 Retail Violent Death Report, we found that there was more than 1 publicly reported retail death per day last year. In total, there were 374 retail deaths reported in 2016, broken down into six categories.

2016 Robbery Report: Robberies & Burglaries Up 28% Over 2015 - Dec. 2015 vs Dec. 2016: Incidents Up 125%
The D&D Daily reported a total of 1,822 robberies and burglaries across the United States in the fourth quarter of 2016, bringing the total number of publicly reported incidents in 2016 to 5,974. This,compared to last year's 4,666 total, is a 28% increase.

After each of the first two quarters in 2016, the D&D Daily released exclusive reports about ORC trends in the United States and in which direction these crimes were moving for the remainder of the year. With 441 ORC cases in the third quarter, an increase over the 395 reported in Q2 and 368 in Q1, the number of ORC cases in 2016 is still on track to surpass last year's figures.

In our latest quarterly Robbery & Burglary Report, we found that incidents are down slightly year to date. The report also suggests that Hurricane Harvey may have had a substantial impact on the number of robberies and burglaries in Q3.

Comparing last December to this December reveals a stunning jump in the number of reported robberies and burglaries. Through the first half of December 2015, there were a total of 216 robberies reported in the Daily, while that same period for this year saw 359 robberies - a massive 66 percent jump.

In every month of 2016, the number of reported robberies has surpassed or - in a few cases - is virtually the same as the corresponding month of the previous year. The difference is especially stark over the course of the past several months, starting with a 60 percent spike in the number of August robberies and continuing last month as October robberies jumped by nearly 50 percent.

Q1 2017 Robbery Report
Robberies & Burglaries Up 33% Since 2015
In the first quarter of 2017, the number of publicly reported robberies and burglaries climbed to 1,459 incidents. That's a staggering 27% increase over the first quarter of last year(1,151 incidents) and a 33% percent jump from the number of reported incidents (1,101) in Q1 of 2015.

Deaths Up 13% Q2 - Up 15% in Half Year
113 Deaths Q2 - 225 Deaths Half Year
With a 15% increase in violent deaths over the first half of 2016, the most alarming numbers are the sharp 32% increase in victims' deaths and 35% decrease in suspects' deaths in the second quarter of this year, with 61 customers, 14 employees, and 4 law enforcement and LP associates' deaths.
